Event Description

People in rural areas can often face extra challenges to becoming digitally included, from less digital skills support, to greater distances to travel to public internet access and poor broadband availability.

Rural Challenges, Digital Solutions is a one-day event from Tinder Foundation - in Birmingham on Monday 6 July - that will explore how to support people in ALL areas of the country gain digital skills.

It’s perfect for housing professionals involved in digital skills for tenants, community development professionals or anyone invested in increasing digital inclusion in rural communities.

Expert speakers and practical workshops will cover topics like:

  • How to support rural SMEs.
  • Understand the challenges and barriers specific groups face in seeking employment.
  • Practical tips for working with volunteers.
  • Capacity building through partnerships.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • William Perrin - Rural broadband activist, co-founder of the connect8.org campaign and Director and Founder of Talk about Local
    • William spent the first 20 years of his life on an isolated farm a mile from a paved road and two miles from the nearest village. He has seen digital connections and the skills to use them transform rural communities and will talk about his experience grappling with rural broadband issues in the Chiltern Hills where many families and business are effectively cut off from the modern digital world.
  • Graham Dunn - Senior Government Affairs Manager, Vodafone UK
    • Graham will be joining us to chat about Vodafone's Rural Open Sure Signal programme, which brings better mobile connections to rural areas without the need for a giant mast. Communities involved in the project can benefit from being able to get online and make clearer phone calls in locations where they couldn't before.
  • Sam Stronach - Community Investment Officer, Cottsway Housing
    • Cottsway Housing is the largest housing provider in West Oxfordshire, and also manages properties in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. Sam will be bring her expertise in rolling out digital inclusion activity across rural communities with a widely spread housing stock.

...and more!
